WHAT’S YOUR HUSTLE: Spreading the word about Rock ‘N Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles, a non-profit with the mission of empowering girls ages 8-17 through music education. In one week, the girls learn how to play an instrument, write their own song and perform. We also provide various workshops on everything from recording to self-defense.
WHAT DOES YOUR HUSTLE MEAN TO YOU: More than anything, it’s about giving young girls the skills and confidence to get through life with the courage and self-reliance to be themselves.
IF YOU COULD HAVE ONLY 3 TOOLS FOR YOUR HUSTLE, WHAT WOULD THEY BE: Definitely a DVD of the documentary (‘Girls Rock!’) made about the first camp (to show what we’re all about), tickets to the showcase (so you can see the end result) and my smartphone to stay in touch and organized.
A WORD TO WANNABE HUSTLERS IN YOUR FIELD: Starting a non-profit is challenging, but the key is getting support from your local and like-minded community (individuals and groups) before taking it to the next level. Ultimately, you’re there to serve the needs and interests of your community. Build up your base there first.
