The Boys Are Back in Town: Homestretch hijinks with Altamont and No Age

Just like an investigative journalist embedded with the troops, I had no idea what I was in for when the boys from No Age and Altamont picked me up in their road-torn tour van this Saturday. But, I was sure-as-hell excited.

Destination: A skate contest after-party and sleepover at the extra-hip ACE Hotel in Palm Springs with No Age set to DJ as a grand finale to their cross-country tour co-hosted by Altamont.  Hello, fun!

With comped hotel rooms, bar tabs, jacuzzis, swimming pools and a dance floor jammed with skaters plus random bachelorettes and birthday girls, the whole night was nothing but fun and funny.

Being the only girl rolling with a crew of dudes, I had moments where I felt like Jane Goodall studying the chimpanzees – only these chimpanzees weren’t just cute and friendly, they also knew everything there is to know about music and skating. Pretty awesome.

But what I liked best about my weekend getaway was hanging with a group of people that really love what they do and support each others’ work in rad ways. Check the Altamont Apparel website and you’ll see their About page kicks off with the quote, “Find a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” I love that. Word to that.

Oh yeah, but another thing I learned is that even when your living out your rock ‘n roll skater dreams, life isn’t always kind, even on your victory lap back to LA. You see, there may be times when you land a date with a hot chick that says you look like Elvis, but there will also be times when an annoying bachelorette tells you your music sucks and to please play some Nelly “It’s Getting Hot in Here.”

Thanks to Altamont and No Age for a super fun weekend. I love the way you guys hustle it. “Cut from a different cloth,” for sure, and inspiring, to say the least. Much love!
